IRATA qualifications are globally recognised as a standard for Rope Access technicians seeking employment in construction, rail, civil engineering, oil and gas, and the built environment. IRATA has a formal training and certification scheme - Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme (TACS) - which all members are obliged to comply with. Technicians are graded from level 1 to 3 to reflect their experience and competency level.

IRATA Level 1 - Rope Access Technician
Level one requires no previous experience or qualifications, however, a reasonable level of physical fitness and a "head for heights" is essential. Once qualified as a Level 1 Rope Access Technician, you will receive an IRATA log book and ID card, and be able to perform a specified range of rope access tasks under the supervision of a Level 3 supervisor.

A Level 1 technician will be:

  • responsible for inspections of all his/her own personal rope access equipment;
  • able to assist in rigging and non-standard operations, under the guidance of a higher grade;
  • able to undertake a rescue involving descent by him/herself and have knowledge of hauling systems.

IRATA Level 2 - Rope Access Technician
This course is for an experienced rope access technician who has 1,000 logged hours and one year's experience at Level 1. The course syllabus includes all Level 1 content plus more complex rigging, rescue and rope access skills, under the supervision of a Level 3 Technician. The trainee will gain knowledge of legislation, safety requirements and quality assurance procedures relating to rope access.

Under the supervision of a Level 3 Technician, a Level 2 Rope Access Technician will be capable of:
  • rigging working ropes
  • undertaking rescues
  • performing rope access tasks
Duration: 5 days - Price: £750 + VAT

IRATA Level 3 - Rope Access Technician
This course is suitable for rope access technicians who have 1,000 logged hours and one year's experience at Level 2.

A Level 3 Rope Access Technician will:
  • be capable of site supervision for rope access work projects
  • be conversant with relevant work techniques and legislation
  • be able to demonstrate all the skills and knowledge required of Levels 1 and 2
  • have a comprehensive knowledge of advanced rescue techniques
  • hold an appropriate current first aid certificate, to show that suitable emergency first aid training has been undertaken
  • have knowledge of the IRATA Training, Assessment and Certification Scheme
  • be familiar with the contents of the IRATA ICOP
Duration: 5 days - Price: £750 + VAT

IRATA Refresher Training
We offer refresher courses for all IRATA technicians not engaged in rope access work for six months or more. Training will cover all relevant areas of the technicians current IRATA level.
Price: £175 + VAT per day

IRATA Technician Competency Assurance
For companies who require evidence pre-mobilisation of an IRATA technician's technical competency and/or trade tests (video recorded), we offer tailored job/contract specific training at our premises in Hillington, and our partners' sites. Trade testing is also offered for IRATA levels 1, 2, 3 and 'I'.
